Musica per ottoni

I composed this work in 1982 at the request of Hungarian Radio. It was not performed in public until 1992.

This suite for brass sextet, imbued with the atmosphere of a “divertimento”, follows a centuries-old tradition, both in the order of its movements (Allegro - Adagio - Allegro) and in their formal structure (Sonatina – Song - Rondo).

After a first movement characterized by a steady, regular, and pulsating rhythm, the trumpet melody arches, in the second movement, over an ostinato accompaniment. In the third movement, I revisit the “saltarello” rhythm, that frequently appears in my works. — Ferenc Farkas
