Danube Valley Garland

„Danube Valley Garland” for soprano and tenor with orchestra was composed in 1976. This unusual song cycle symbolizes the brotherhood of the peoples living beside the Danube.

Farkas set to music three Slovakian, three Croatian and three Romanian folksongs translated into Hungarian, in all nine, the first verse being sung in the original language. The Hungarian sections surround the Slovakian, Croatian and Romanian verses like garlands wrapped around colourful f1owers, together making a crown of music. — László Gombos
