Ferenc Farkas, the classical composer of 20th-century Hungarian music wrote his “Buccinata”, a piece for trombone at the age of eighty-five, in 1990. Conceived in rondo-like form, it consists of thirty-eight bars altogether, has duration of two minutes and displays nevertheless all playing potentials of the trombone. The melody is made up of the alternation of minims, semibreves, minor and major thirds, fourths, and perfect fifths enriched by glissandos. The word “buccina” is an old Italian term for trombone, so the title itself contains a reference to the instrument.
